For nearly a decade, the original Mighty was considered by many to be the best dry herb vaporizer in the world. However, in 2021, Storz & Bickel replaced the flagship with the updated Mighty Plus.
As one of the most respected names in the vaporizer industry, any new S&B product release usually is something special - and the Plus did not dissapoint.
I have used both pretty extensively so know the ins and outs. So, is it worth the £100 price increase? Let's find out.
I'll take you through a list of seven essential points I considered when giving the device its first test run. As one who was looking forward to releasing a new Mighty to replace my older model from 2014, it couldn't be a better fit!
The Technology is Better
I reviewed the Mighty a few years ago and was thoroughly impressed with its performance. I still have and use the original, and It performs well. But if you compare it to the newer version, there are many improvements. Also, unlike Storz & Bickel's Crafty+, you don't need to connect to an app to set the temperature. I love my phone. I love my vape. I don't always need them together. It's nice to forget my phone and enjoy a vaping session.
Once it ramps up, I found this unit to be much more consistent in maintaining the set temperature. Remember, this unit has both full convection and conduction heating, which means it's very efficient, even if you don't grind your herbs fine enough. The Mighty original was 100% convection heating, so if your herb wasn't ground fine enough or there were chunks in there, you could tell.
I love the Design
I mentioned this already at the beginning of this article, but it's worth mentioning again. This unit is so beautifully designed and built, you can feel it in your hands when you hold it for the first time. The buttons are easier to use and don't feel as cheap.
They have more resistance and don't seem to "click" as much when you use them. The outer shell of the unit is more sturdy, with a rubbery feeling. It's less likely to slip out of your hands or slide off a table than the older model, which was all plastic and slippery.
Thank You, Battery Life
The older Mighty could only last around 30 minutes on a full charge, sometimes less, depending on the length of your session. It uses two powerful lithium-ion batteries, and this unit lasts 60 to 90 minutes, which is a considerable improvement. With a longer battery life, this vape device is perfect for camping and other outdoor activities. Although it's a little clunky, the vaporizer is still portable enough to fit into your pocket or purse if you want to bring it places with you.
The Mighty Plus charges in two and a half hours with a standard plug. While this seems like a long time, it's charging two batteries for 90 minutes minimum continuous charge. Additionally, the super-charge function can hit 80% battery life in 40 minutes with a separate charger. Both chargers use a USB-C, which means you can use a portable charging unit or go through a laptop or similar device to charge it or just use it while the battery is low. More about that feature is below.
Another cool feature is that you can use it while plugged in, and it will still charge the batteries. However, it will charge slower because you're using two functions. This feature is excellent if you want to quickly finish a session and just use the remaining charge on the batteries. I do this all the time because I regularly forget to charge it. The Mighty Plus is not the cheapest portable on the market, but if you are looking for a serious vaporizer that lasts, this is the one.
It's easy to clean
I use the small cleaning brush supplied to sweep out any debris from the chamber, and I generally find this is sufficient for a good clean. The only downside is that you have to open the unit up fully and clean both sides of the screens. I used to use a cotton swab but found it would often push debris further into the unit or even into the herb chamber.
Also, if you don't, the screen will clog up after a few sessions, and it'll produce less vapor. The good news is, screens are replaceable, and you get three with the original purchase. So, you can order a set with a few extras for under £30.
So is the Mighty+ Plus worth the upgrade?
Although the vape itself is impressive, the biggest issue for many will be the price. However, the Mighty+ Plus isn't just the best Storz & Bickel has to offer, it's the best portable vaporizer money can buy. I would definitely recommend it if you are looking to upgrade from your older model, Mighty.
Overall, this is a high-quality unit, and while it is pricey, it does deliver a great experience. If you are on the fence, I would recommend going for it if the price is not an issue. It'll last years of daily use if you treat it well and is a very effective vape for home or on the go.
